Former One Direction member Liam Payne, 31, was found dead on Wednesday after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to local authorities. Payne fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighborhood, suffering fatal injuries.
Buenos Aires police stated that Payne had jumped from the balcony, and emergency responders confirmed his death at the scene.
Hotel staff had called emergency services earlier, reporting that Payne was behaving aggressively and appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
An investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing, and an autopsy is being conducted.
Payne had been open about his struggles with alcoholism and had recently shared that he had been sober for six months.
