On Saturday, November 23, Brad Pitt caused a scare at the Las Vegas Grand Prix when he appeared to collapse in front of a crowd.
The 60-year-old Oscar-winning actor was seen stumbling and eventually falling to the ground during the event. However, the incident turned out to be a staged stunt for a new Formula One movie Pitt is starring in.
Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, is a retired driver who returns to Formula 1 to mentor a younger teammate. To promote the film, the fictional race team, APX GP, released a statement about the “incident.” The message read: “During Qualifying, Sonny sustained a significant impact requiring immediate medical evaluation. Incidents of this magnitude are always taken seriously, and Sonny’s health remains our top priority.” It added that while Sonny was stable, he would not participate in the next race as he focused on recovery.
Pitt, dressed in full racing gear, was seen unsteadily walking away after the staged fall.
The film, set to release in June 2025, also stars Damson Idris as his teammate. Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton is a producer, and Joseph Kosinski, known for directing Top Gun: Maverick, is at the helm.
