A 19-year-old student, Lyedja Santos, was arrested after allegedly shooting a classmate in the head at a school in Brazil.
Following the shooting, she tried to aim her gun at a teacher and other students, but the gun malfunctioned. A brave classmate was able to stop her by holding her down.
One of the students described the events, saying that Santos had called some friends to talk before the gunshot occurred. The student initially thought it was a bomb but later realized it was a gunshot. Santos then attempted to target the teacher, but the gun jammed, and she tried to flee. The classmate quickly intervened to stop her.
After her arrest, police found a revolver, knives, and disturbing materials in her possession. Santos had written a note in which she took full responsibility for the actions, apologized to her family and friends, and expressed regret for what had happened.
Santos was charged with attempted murder, and the school community expressed support for the affected student.
