Atlanta rapper Young Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Bailey, has reportedly passed away at the age of 39 on his birthday.
According to police reports, a 39-year-old man sustained a leg injury while attempting to flee from officers responding to a 911 call at a residence on William Nye Drive on March 28. He was transported to Grady Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Reports have confirmed that the deceased was Young Scooter, though authorities have not officially released his identity.
Police stated that officers arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a dispute involving gunfire and a woman being forced back into the residence. Upon arrival, a man briefly opened the door before shutting it in their faces.
As officers secured the perimeter, two men attempted to flee—one returned, while the other, identified as Scooter, reportedly jumped two fences before being found injured. Officers provided medical assistance before he was taken to the hospital. Authorities confirmed that no shots were fired by police, and the woman mentioned in the initial call was not found at the scene.
Scooter, originally from Walterboro, S.C., moved to Atlanta’s Kirkwood community at age nine. He pursued music in 2008 following a drug trafficking charge and later collaborated with childhood friend Future before signing with him in 2012. He also signed with Waka Flocka Flame in 2013.
Tributes poured in from fellow artists, with Waka Flocka sharing an emotional message on Instagram, calling Scooter “the backbone.”
Playboi Carti and Quavo also expressed their grief on social media.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.
