In Vermont last month, one of the three college students of Palestinian descent, Hisham Awartani, was paralyzed from the chest down after being shot in a suspected hate crime.
Two others, Tahseen Aliahmad and Kinnan Abdalhamid, are expected to make a full recovery.
The incident occurred near the University of Vermont campus, and the alleged shooter, Jason Eaton, has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder.
The students, wearing Palestinian scarves, were confronted while speaking a mix of English and Arabic.
The shooting took place amidst a surge in anti-Islamic, anti-Arab, and antisemitic incidents in the U.S. following the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
