Two University of Florida scientists, Dustin Huff, 35, and Yurui Xie, 31, were arrested for allegedly placing their children in homemade cages while they went to work.
Gainesville Police found the wooden enclosures during a search, and the couple, accused of child abuse and neglect, reportedly considered it normal.
The children, aged 6 and 2, are now in the custody of vetted family members, while the accused scientists have been put on administrative leave by the University of Florida.
