Ghana’s Black Queens now hold the fourth position in Africa’s FIFA ranking, trailing behind Nigeria, South Africa, and Morocco in first, second, and third places respectively.
Led by Nora Hauptle, the team’s significant improvement secured their spot in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled for June in Morocco, following three wins and one defeat, scoring 15 goals and conceding two.
Next, they face Zambia in February for the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s Copper Queens slipped one place, dropping from 69 to 70 in the December FIFA World Rankings, yet surpassing Ivory Coast, which fell five spots to sixth in Africa.
Most African teams in the top ten experienced drops, with Cameroon plunging twelve places to 68, and South Africa facing the second-highest drop from 45 to 52 globally but maintaining the second spot in Africa.
