Nigeria’s NAFDAC Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, has enforced a ban on alcoholic beverages in sachets less than 200ml, citing their harmful effects on underage children.
The ban, initiated in 2018, took full effect on January 31, 2024.
Adeyeye emphasized the phased approach and collaboration with health authorities and industry representatives.
Manufacturers failing to comply face potential prosecution.
The decision aims to protect youth from the adverse consequences of alcohol consumption, aligning with WHO recommendations on regulating marketing and availability of alcoholic beverages.
NAFDAC urges stakeholders to report and surrender banned products for destruction.
