Burkina Faso has expelled three French diplomats over allegations of involvement in “subversive activities,” according to a notice from the Burkinabe Foreign Affairs Ministry to France.
The notice, dated April 16, did not provide specific details regarding the alleged activities.
The diplomats have been declared persona non grata and instructed to leave Burkina Faso within 48 hours.
Among them are two political advisers stationed at the French Embassy in Ouagadougou.
Relations between Burkina Faso and France have deteriorated since Captain Ibrahim Traoré seized power in a coup in September 2022.
The military administration has shifted towards closer ties with Russia, resulting in strained relations with France.
Over the past two years, the junta has compelled France to recall its ambassador, close France’s military base, and suspend certain French media platforms.
