Two individuals found themselves in a precarious situation on Saturday afternoon when they attempted to snatch a mobile phone from a woman near the Astrol Petrol Station on Lenana Road in Nairobi’s Kilimani district.
Riding a motorcycle, the duo’s criminal endeavor was short-lived as they were swiftly surrounded by vigilant residents and boda boda riders, who meted out swift retribution with punches and kicks.
Kilimani Police Station officers intervened to rescue the suspects.
Eyewitnesses, who recognized the suspects from a previous theft incident, reported that the culprits had successfully stolen the phone but were foiled in their escape when a boda boda rider hurled a wooden log in their path, causing them to tumble.
They found themselves cornered by a growing crowd incensed by the surge in theft cases attributed to these individuals.
Outcries of “Mmetuzoea sana…kila siku ni masimu za watu…” echoed from various corners of the crowd, underscoring the community’s frustration.
Police officers from the nearby station rushed to the scene and, despite the crowd’s demands for vigilante justice, took the two suspects into custody.
At the police station, the detainees were held while the woman whose phone had been stolen provided her statement to the authorities.
