NORTH TEXAS – White Settlement Chief of Police Christopher Cook provided updates in a Sunday morning press conference about an investigation into a man driving approximately 40 miles with a lifeless body in the passenger seat. Cook emphasized the severity of impairment, stating, “When you hit a pedestrian and mistake it for an animal, that’s significant impairment.”
The incident unfolded around 11:00 p.m. when a concerned citizen reported a driver slumped over the wheel at a Jack in the Box parking lot. Police found a deceased person in the passenger seat, and the driver, 31-year-old Nester Lujuan Flores, was detained for intoxication.
Flores claimed hitting a deer but never reported the incident.
Detectives suspect the impact occurred between Arlington and White Settlement, causing severe trauma.
Flores, previously arrested for DWI in 2020, now faces charges of intoxication, manslaughter, and potential failure to stop.
The investigation has been transferred to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, with efforts to determine Flores’s drinking location and possible over-service.
Cook highlighted the broader issue of impaired driving during the holiday season and emphasized increased police presence to ensure public safety.
