On Tuesday, microblogging sites Facebook and Instagram experienced widespread outages affecting thousands of users globally.
Users began reporting issues around 3:00 PM GMT, with over 500,000 outage reports for Facebook and dozens for Instagram.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the problem, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
Meta’s status dashboard indicated glitches in the WhatsApp Business API, with Downdetector reporting around 200 outages for WhatsApp.
The outage became a top trending topic on X (formerly Twitter), with users noting sudden logouts from Meta-owned platforms.
