An Ohio mother, sentenced Monday to life in prison with no chance of parole, left her 16-month-old daughter alone in a playpen for 10 days last summer while she went on vacation.
Kristel Candelario, 32, pleaded guilty to aggravated m*rder and child endangerment as part of a plea deal with Cuyahoga County prosecutors.
She left her daughter, Jailyn, in their Cleveland home while vacationing in Detroit and Puerto Rico in June 2023.
Upon returning, she found the girl unresponsive and called 911.
Emergency responders pronounced the child d*ad due to starvation and severe dehydration.
Judge Brendan Sheehan called her actions “the ultimate betrayal” and sentenced her accordingly.
Candelario, who has struggled with depression, expressed remorse and prayed for forgiveness.
