Actor Jonathan Majors was sentenced to probation and avoided jail time on Monday for assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a case that significantly impacted his career.
The 34-year-old, known for his roles in “Creed III” and other films, had been facing a potential year of imprisonment after a Manhattan jury convicted him of misdemeanor assault in December.
Judge Michael Gaffey also mandated that Majors complete a 52-week in-person batterer’s intervention program and continue mental health therapy.
Following the guilty verdict, Marvel Studios promptly severed ties with Majors. They had previously cast him as Kang the Conqueror, a central villain role planned for future movies and TV series.
The assault incident occurred last March when Majors’ then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, accused him of attacking her in a chauffeured car. She alleged that he hit her head, twisted her arm, and fractured her finger.
Majors argued that Jabbari had become violent after reading a text message on his phone, claiming he was simply trying to retrieve his phone and leave the situation safely.
