Abubakar Tahiru, a 29-year-old Ghanaian environmental activist and Forestry student, has set a new Guinness World Record by hugging 1,123 trees in just one hour.
This achievement not only earned him the record title but also marked the first time this particular record has been established.
The Guinness World Record committee commended Tahiru for surpassing the minimum requirement of 700 tree hugs with ease.
The event took place at the Tuskegee National Forest in Alabama, USA, where Tahiru averaged almost 19 tree hugs per minute.
Growing up in a farming community in Tepa, Ghana, Tahiru developed a strong passion for nature and conservation, which led him to pursue studies in Forestry.
Despite fasting during Ramadan and not drinking water, Tahiru successfully completed the challenge by embracing each tree with both arms in a close embrace.
The guidelines of the challenge were strict, requiring that no tree could be hugged more than once and no damage should be caused to any tree.
Tahiru emphasized the physical challenge of the attempt due to fasting and the exertion involved.
In his statement to Guinness World Records, Abubakar expressed the significance of this achievement in highlighting the crucial role of trees in the ecosystem and the urgency of environmental conservation.
