A restaurant chef has been accused by the FBI of tampering with food and causing illness to numerous individuals over a period of weeks.
Jace Christian Hanson, aged 21, is facing charges for unlawfully altering or contaminating food, and there is potential for more charges to be brought against him.
Authorities revealed that anyone who dined at the Hereford House restaurant in Leawood, Kansas, from March 26 to April 25 may have been affected by the incident.
Multiple local agencies in Johnson County are collaborating to understand the extent of the situation and the number of people impacted.
County District Attorney Steve Howe mentioned that they are still trying to determine the full scope of the issue.
The Leawood Police Department is actively collecting information, urging affected restaurant patrons to contact their hotline for assistance or to report symptoms.
The investigation has garnered over 130 calls to the hotline, although not all callers reported symptoms.
Howe emphasized that they are receiving information continually as the investigation progresses.
While authorities do not suspect anyone else’s involvement, they anticipate that additional charges may arise as the investigation unfolds.
