Officer Devan Cox, who gained internet fame when his photos circulated widely on social media, is reportedly encountering professional challenges within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
According to reports, Cox, stationed in the Eastern Cape, is facing allegations of breaching SAPS policy by sharing images of himself in uniform with police firearms or logos on social media.
As a member of the SAPS Flying Squad, Cox faced a disciplinary tribunal for portraying law enforcement on social media platforms, which contradicts national SAPS directives.
The tribunal proceedings have concluded, but the outcome has not been disclosed by Colonel Priscilla Naidu.
“No member should display a profile photo of themselves in uniform, with police weapons, logos, or an avatar on their private social media,” Naidu stated.
Cox’s supporters expressed dismay at the prospect of their favorite officer facing repercussions.
One Twitter user expressed frustration, highlighting other misconduct among South African police officers and questioning the SAPS’s priorities in disciplining Cox merely for his appearance.
Another commenter emphasized that Cox is not an adult film star or model but a law enforcement officer who can share personal content without his police uniform.
Cox’s social media presence showcases his passion for adventure, travel, hiking, and camping.
In an interview with Algoa FM in April, he discussed his unexpected rise to fame, emphasizing that he is a genuine person, not a virtual influencer.
Cox disclosed that he leads an active and healthy lifestyle and is a father of two boys, though he is not married.
