A lawyer representing Casandra “Cassie” Ventura has denounced Sean “Diddy” Combs’ apology as “insincere” following his public statement regarding a video of him assaulting her in a hotel hallway in 2016.
On Sunday, Diddy released an Instagram video in which he apologized for attacking his then-girlfriend Cassie, labeling his actions as “inexcusable” and accepting “full responsibility for his actions in the video.”
Cassie’s attorney, Meredith Firetog, responded by stating that the apology was more self-focused and driven by the video’s exposure. “When Cassie and several other women came forward, he denied everything and implied that his victims were after financial gain,” Firetog told CNN. “His so-called ‘apology’ now, after his repeated denials were proven false, reveals his pathetic desperation, and no one will be fooled by his insincere words,” she added.
In his video, Diddy referred to the incident as “one of the darkest periods in his life,” admitting he was “disgusted by his actions” and mentioning that he sought professional help and therapy after the 2016 incident. He expressed remorse but did not seek forgiveness.
Before the footage surfaced, Combs had consistently denied all allegations, including those accusing him of trapping Cassie in a cycle of abuse, violence, and sex trafficking during their relationship.
The security footage, first published by CNN, depicts Diddy chasing Cassie down a hotel hallway, throwing her to the ground, and kicking her.
This video appears to support several claims made in a lawsuit Cassie filed in 2023, where she accused Diddy of trafficking, raping, and beating her over ten years.
Despite the video’s emergence, Diddy is unlikely to face criminal charges due to the statute of limitations.
This controversy adds to a series of civil lawsuits Diddy faces, accusing him of sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and rape, which he and his attorneys have labeled as unfounded and financially motivated.
