Jimmy Kimmel shared that his 7-year-old son underwent his third open-heart surgery over the Memorial Day weekend.
The host of “Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel!” posted an update about his son, Billy, on Monday via Instagram.
Billy, whom he shares with his wife, Molly McNearney, had the surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Kimmel expressed optimism and gratitude, saying they emerged with a new valve and a happy, healthy child. He also praised the hospital staff and expressed humility after meeting other parents and children in similar situations.
Kimmel first spoke about Billy’s congenital heart defect shortly after his birth in 2017. He mentioned then that Billy would require multiple surgeries, which included a successful surgery at just three days old and another at seven months old.
Kimmel has been open about his family’s experience, emphasizing the importance of accessible healthcare for all families.
He thanked his wife for her strength and described Billy as the toughest and funniest 7-year-old they know.
