A prominent singer, songwriter, author, actress, human rights and social activist, journalist, politician, and former judge on the X Factor series, Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at 72.
She reportedly collapsed at the birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceutical and later died at Reddington Hospital in Lagos. An eyewitness stated, “Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it.”
Known affectionately as the Elegant Stallion by the Nigerian press, Onyeka was the former chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and was appointed Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development in 2013.
Originally from Arondizuogu in Imo State but grew up in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
