Russia has declared a “federal-level” emergency in the Kursk region and sent additional troops following a significant Ukrainian incursion.
This move came four days after a large number of Ukrainian soldiers crossed the border in what is believed to be Kyiv’s most substantial assault on Russian territory since the conflict began.
In another development, a Russian missile launched from a plane struck a Ukrainian shopping mall in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, during the day, resulting in at least 12 deaths and 44 injuries.
The mall, situated in a residential area, was engulfed in thick black smoke after the attack.
Donetsk regional head Vadym Filashkin condemned the strike as a deliberate act of terror.
This incident marks the second major attack on Kostiantynivka in nearly a year; a similar strike on an outdoor market last September resulted in 17 fatalities.
Russia’s Defense Ministry has announced that it is sending reinforcements, including multiple rocket launchers, artillery, tanks, and heavy vehicles, to the Kursk region in response to the Ukrainian raid.
