Several arrests have been made in connection to Matthew Perry’s death, according to a law enforcement source.
Matthew Perry, widely recognized for his role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” passed away in October at 54. He was discovered floating face down in his pool at his Pacific Palisades residence.
According to an autopsy by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office, Perry died from the “acute effects of ketamine” and subsequent drowning.
Back in May, Los Angeles Police Department Captain Scot Williams confirmed that an ongoing investigation into Perry’s death was criminal in nature. Williams mentioned that authorities were investigating how Perry obtained the drugs and who supplied them, with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service also participating in the inquiry.
In his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry openly discussed his long struggle with drug addiction, which began after a jet ski accident on the set of the 1997 film “Fools Rush In,” where he was prescribed Vicodin. Perry revealed that at one point, he was consuming up to 55 pills a day, leading to noticeable weight loss during his time on “Friends.”
Ketamine, which has gained popularity in recent years as a treatment for depression, anxiety, and pain, was part of Perry’s treatment regimen before his death. Coroner’s investigators were informed by those close to Perry that he was receiving ketamine infusion therapy from at least two doctors, according to reports.
The news of Perry’s death shocked fans, as he was beloved for his role on “Friends,” which aired from 1994 to 2004 alongside Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow.
The cast released a joint statement expressing their devastation and referring to Perry as more than just a castmate, but as family. They added that they would share more thoughts in due time but, for now, their focus is on grieving and supporting Perry’s loved ones.
