In a stabbing spree at a festival in Solingen, Germany, a man killed three people and injured eight others, with authorities considering the possibility of terrorism, according to a Saturday statement.
The attacker remains at large, and police are investigating a 15-year-old suspect for potential connections to the incident.
Markus Caspers from the Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office indicated terrorism could be a factor, as there seems to be no clear motive and the victims were unrelated.
Police official Thorsten Fleiss noted the attacker targeted victims’ throats.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser assured that security forces are working diligently to apprehend the perpetrator and investigate the event, which occurred during a festival celebrating Solingen’s 650th anniversary. Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized the need for swift justice.
The area has been cordoned off, with candles and flowers left by onlookers.
