Angelina Jolie has officially withdrawn her lawsuit against the FBI regarding its investigation into an alleged abuse incident involving her and her ex-husband Brad Pitt.
The “Tomb Raider” actress filed a motion to dismiss the case with prejudice on September 25, according to court records obtained by Page Six. Each party will cover its own legal expenses.
The FBI initiated the investigation after receiving an anonymous tip about a physical altercation between Pitt, 60, and Jolie, 49, that reportedly took place on a private jet in 2016, involving their children. The investigation was closed on November 22, 2016, with no charges filed against Pitt, shortly after which Jolie filed for divorce.
In April 2022, Jolie filed the lawsuit under a pseudonym, “Jane Doe,” invoking the Freedom of Information Act to request details about the investigation into domestic violence involving her and her minor children as victims and witnesses. At the time, sources indicated that Jolie was strategically trying to uncover any damaging information the FBI might have on Pitt for use in their ongoing custody battle over their six children.
An insider suggested that Jolie was likely searching for any information that could be used against Pitt, describing the lawsuit as a “desperate fishing expedition” for something that likely didn’t exist in the FBI’s notes.
In a related countersuit, Jolie accused Pitt of choking one of their children and striking another during the notorious incident on the plane. She also alleged that Pitt grabbed her by the head and shook her, and at one point, he poured beer on her and wine on the children.
Pitt has categorically denied all allegations of physical abuse, calling Jolie’s claims “completely untrue.”
