Chris Brown has responded to a petition seeking to ban him from performing two concerts in South Africa later this year.
The petition, initiated by a women’s rights advocacy group called Women for Change, has gathered nearly 40,000 signatures as of October 16.
Despite the opposition, Brown casually commented on the group’s Instagram page, writing, “Can’t wait to come,” with a heart emoji.
Women for Change launched the petition on October 2 via Change.org, calling on concert promoters and the South African government to reconsider allowing Brown to perform at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium in mid-December.
The group’s executive director, Sabina Walter, expressed disappointment over Brown’s upcoming performances, citing his history of violence against women. Walter emphasized that allowing him to perform in a country grappling with high rates of gender-based violence (GBV) sends a harmful message.
Despite the criticism, demand for tickets remains high, with Brown reportedly selling out the 94,000-seat venue in under two hours, leading to the addition of a second show.
