Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine (Daniel Hernandez), known for cooperating with prosecutors against his former gang associates, was arrested on Tuesday, October 29, for allegedly breaching the conditions of his supervised release.
The Manhattan federal court arraigned him on charges related to violations of his parole agreement, which is due to end in April 2025. Court documents indicate that Tekashi pleaded not guilty and will remain in custody until his next hearing.
Tekashi’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, reported that the rapper faces three “technical violations” of his supervised release and expressed confidence that these charges would be dismissed.
Initially, Tekashi faced racketeering and murder conspiracy charges in 2018 for his ties with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, a New York street gang.
His cooperation with prosecutors, including testifying against his former associates, earned him a lighter sentence of two years in prison and five years of supervised release.
During Tuesday’s hearing, prosecutors argued that Tekashi traveled to Las Vegas without permission, missed drug tests, and tested positive for methamphetamine. Lazzaro countered, suggesting the failed test was due to prescribed Adderall, but the judge cited a broader pattern of rule violations.
An evidentiary hearing is scheduled for November 12.
