Quincy Jones passed away from pancreatic cancer, according to his death certificate, which was released a week after his death. The certificate only mentioned cancer as the cause, noting that he had been living with it for several years.
Jones, a groundbreaking musician and producer who collaborated with artists like Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra, died at 91 on November 3 at his Los Angeles home. He was buried in a private ceremony earlier this week, with a public memorial being planned.
Jones’ publicist Arnold Robinson confirmed his death, stating that he was surrounded by family at the time. In a heartfelt statement, his family expressed their sadness, saying, “Although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
Jones, a 28-time Grammy winner, is survived by his seven children, including actress Rashida Jones. Rashida shared an emotional tribute to her father on Instagram, recalling their bond and how he would let her stay with him while he worked late into the night. She described him as a “giant, an icon, a culture shifter, and a genius,” adding that his music was a reflection of his love for others.
Jones had been married multiple times, first to Jeri Caldwell, with whom he had a daughter, Jolie. He then had a second child, Rachel, with dancer Carol Reynolds. With his third wife, actress Peggy Lipton, he had two daughters, Rashida and Kadida. Later, he married Ulla Andersson and had two more children, Martina and Quincy. After his divorce from Lipton, he had a son, Kenya, with girlfriend Nastassja Kinski.
