Jake Paul secured a unanimous victory over Mike Tyson on Friday night, despite the event being hindered by streaming problems on Netflix.
Those who managed to tune in witnessed Paul dominate the 58-year-old Tyson after a slow start. Although Tyson won the first two rounds, Paul found his rhythm, connecting with 78 of 278 punches compared to Tyson’s 18 out of 97. However, the final rounds were lackluster, drawing boos from the crowd at AT&T Stadium, as both fighters appeared to coast through the two-minute rounds.
The judges scored the fight decisively in Paul’s favor, with scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73. Even so, some felt the match wasn’t as close as the scores suggested.
Despite Netflix’s technical issues, many who watched the fight were left disappointed, particularly seeing Tyson, at 58, struggle to keep his footing. Among the critics was Magic Johnson, who expressed his sadness on X, stating he had to stop watching. “This fight tonight was not great for boxing,” he remarked.
After the match, Tyson jokingly turned his attention to Logan Paul during the post-fight interview. Logan, standing alongside his victorious brother, responded bluntly, “F–k, I’ll kill you Mike,” showing no hesitation.
Tyson maintained a light-hearted attitude post-defeat.
When asked by Ariel Helwani about his habit of biting his boxing glove during the fight, Tyson acknowledged it with a grin, admitting he has a “biting fixation.” The comment alluded to his infamous 1997 rematch with Evander Holyfield, where he bit off a piece of Holyfield’s ear, drawing an uneasy laugh from those present.
