A court has found four Nigerian students—Habib Lawal, Destiny Ojo, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Joshua Davies-Ero—guilty for their roles in a violent incident that took place in Leicester during the early hours of November 4, 2021.
The clash, which involved knives and a baseball bat, escalated into a major brawl on New Park Street, resulting in an 18-year-old man suffering four stab wounds that required hospital care.
The suspects were identified and charged after a detailed investigation that included CCTV footage, phone tracking, and public appeals.
The six-week trial ended in October, and sentences were given on November 14.
Destiny Ojo, 21, from Plumstead, London, received a seven-year sentence for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent.
Habib Lawal, 21, from Bexley, London, was sentenced to five years for violent disorder, attempted GBH, and GBH with intent.
Ridwanulahi Raheem, 21, from Lambeth, London, received three years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed weapon.
Joshua Davies-Ero, 21, from Bexley, London, was sentenced to two years for violent disorder.
A fifth individual, Justin Asamoah, 22, from Merton, had previously admitted to possessing a bladed weapon and is due for sentencing on November 22.
Detective Constable Sean Downey underlined the seriousness of the case, stating, “This incident illustrates the severe dangers of violent disorder.” He highlighted the fortunate outcome that no additional injuries were inflicted on either the individuals involved or bystanders, noting the potential for a more severe case.
He also expressed gratitude to everyone who supported the investigation and reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining public safety, declaring a zero-tolerance stance on violent disorder in the community.
