A glamorous Jamaican couple, known for their designer fashion, has been accused of stealing over $1 million worth of Lululemon clothing across several states in the U.S.
Jadion ‘Jay Icon’ Richards, a 44-year-old dancehall promoter, and his wife, 45-year-old Akwele ‘Apple’ Lawes-Richards, allegedly targeted stores in Utah, Colorado, New York, and Connecticut.
The couple frequently showcases their lavish lifestyle on social media, posting images of luxury clothing, expensive accessories, and their children dressed in high-end brands. They also share photos with luxury cars, on yachts, and on beach vacations.
On November 14, they were arrested in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota, after being stopped by store detectors while exiting a store. Despite Richards accusing the store of racial profiling, the couple was later arrested in a nearby suburb.
A Lululemon investigator revealed that they had stolen at least 45 items worth $5,000 the day before.
When arrested, officers found several credit cards and a Marriott hotel access card on the couple. A search of their hotel room led to the discovery of 12 suitcases, three of which were filled with Lululemon clothing valued at over $50,000. The couple is accused of theft in multiple incidents, including eight in Colorado and seven in Utah.
This arrest follows a 2022 shoplifting charge in Connecticut, where they were found with fraudulent receipts and fake IDs. Both Richards and Lawes-Richards deny the accusations, claiming they were only in Minnesota for the day and staying with family. They were booked into jail and later released on bail—Lawes-Richards on $30,000 and Richards on $100,000. Their next court appearance is scheduled for December 16.
Lululemon’s vice president of asset protection, Tristen Shields, emphasized the company’s commitment to combating retail crime and ensuring a safe shopping environment for both staff and customers.
