Gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson, known for winning season three of BET’s Sunday Best, was arrested in Greenville, South Carolina, and charged with public intoxication.
According to the Greenville News, Sergeant Diana Munoz of the Greenville Police Department stated that Johnson was causing a disturbance near a restaurant while carrying an open container of alcohol.
Police responded to complaints from patrons at the BrickTop restaurant, where Johnson was reportedly yelling at diners. She allegedly attempted to hide her drink, handing a Styrofoam cup to a man with her as officers approached.
Authorities noted that Johnson smelled of alcohol, exhibited slurred speech, and her cup contained an amber liquid with the scent of alcohol.
Johnson was released on Tuesday after posting a $257.50 bond. The Grammy-winning artist, celebrated for her 2012 performance of “Jesus,” is widely recognized for her hit “Better Days,” which has garnered nearly 10 million Spotify streams.
On Wednesday, Johnson addressed the incident in a YouTube video, apologizing to the Greenville community and expressing gratitude for the support of her fans, friends, and family. She described her ongoing battle with alcoholism as a “daily walk” and acknowledged her personal growth journey.
Johnson has previously spoken openly about her struggles with addiction. In a 2019 episode of OWN’s Iyanla: Fix My Life, she revealed undergoing a 30-day rehab program and serving jail time for a DUI.
