Authorities in the Dominican Republic have apprehended IK Egbor, a Nigerian fugitive wanted by Haitian officials.
Egbor was detained by the Human Trafficking and Smuggling Investigation Department of DICRIM while attempting to secure a travel document under the false claim of losing his identification.
As reported by Dominican on December 24, 2024, Egbor’s arrest revealed irregularities in his migration records, which indicated he had entered the Dominican Republic illegally. Haitian authorities disclosed that Egbor escaped from prison on March 3, 2024, during a mass breakout. He had originally been detained in 2022 at Toussaint Louverture International Airport for attempting to smuggle drugs hidden in his abdomen during a trip to Paris.
Egbor was identified and captured following an international alert and a coordinated investigation with the Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Migration.
Dominican officials confirmed Egbor would be extradited to Haiti’s Bureau Lutte Trafic Stupéfiant (BLTS/DCPJ) to face judicial proceedings for his alleged crimes.
The case underscores the commitment of regional authorities to combat cross-border crime and ensure fugitives are brought to justice.
