In December, Jay-Z was named in a civil lawsuit accusing him and Diddy of sexually assaulting a minor. Since then, the rapper has been working legally to clear his name.
On February 14, the plaintiff, referred to as Jane Doe, through her attorney Tony Buzbee, voluntarily dropped the case. Following this, Jay-Z released a statement expressing his relief.
“Today is a victory,” Jay-Z wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed.” He further stated that the fabricated story was laughable, except for the seriousness of the accusations.
The claims included allegations of Jay-Z forcibly removing Doe’s clothes and raping her. While the case has been dropped, Jay-Z is still pursuing defamation and extortion lawsuits against Buzbee.
In his full statement, Jay-Z said, “This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims. I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma my wife, children, loved ones, and I have endured can never be dismissed.”
He also criticized the legal system, saying, “This 1-800 lawyer gets to file a suit hiding behind Jane Doe, and when they quickly realize that the money grab is going to fail, they get to walk away with no repercussions. The system has failed.”
Jay-Z concluded, “The court must protect victims, of course, but with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence. May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally.”
