Lyle and Erik Menendez’s uncle, Milton Andersen, who strongly opposed their release from prison, has passed away at 91. His death was confirmed on Sunday by Anamaria Baralt, a cousin of the Menendez brothers, via TikTok, where she revealed he had succumbed to cancer. This followed an obituary published by Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home in Illinois on March 4.
Although Baralt supports the brothers’ release, she urged people not to celebrate Andersen’s passing, expressing “great empathy” for him as he had lost his sister, Kitty Menendez, and her husband, Jose Menendez, to the brothers in 1989. Andersen was the last living relative advocating for Lyle and Erik to remain behind bars. As recently as 2024, he voiced his opposition through his attorney, Kathy Cady.
While most of the Menendez family believes the brothers killed their parents due to alleged sexual abuse by their father, Andersen insisted their motive was financial. He was not alone in this belief—his late brother, Brian, had also testified against them during the death penalty phase of their 1996 trial.
