<span;><span;>A woman who accused Mike Tyson of raping and sexually assaulting her in a limousine in the 1990s has officially dropped her lawsuit against the former boxer. The unidentified plaintiff had filed a $5 million suit, alleging that Tyson attacked her after a night at an Albany nightclub.
<span;>In a letter dated March 7, Tyson’s attorney, Daniel Rubin, informed Judge Mitchell J. Katz that the plaintiff was withdrawing her case. Rubin stated that he had spoken with the woman’s lawyer, Darren Seilback, who confirmed that the lawsuit would be dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled. The attorneys are currently finalizing the necessary legal documents for the case’s dismissal.
<span;>Tyson, 58, had consistently denied the allegations, with the plaintiff claiming he forcibly removed her pants and raped her.
<span;>In response to the case being dropped, Rubin said they were pleased with the outcome, calling the allegations baseless and emphasizing that the withdrawal came without any settlement, compensation, or concession from Tyson.
<span;>The lawsuit had been filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which provided a one-year window for victims of sexual assault to bring claims for incidents that occurred years or even decades earlier.
<span;>Tyson, originally from Brooklyn, rose to fame as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990 but has faced multiple controversies outside the ring. He was convicted of rape in 1992 and served three years in prison. His career was further marked by his infamous 1997 disqualification for biting Evander Holyfield’s ear, allegations of domestic abuse from his first wife, Robin Givens, struggles with drug addiction, and financial troubles that led to bankruptcy in 2003.
<span;>More recently, Tyson has gained attention from a younger audience, notably with a high-profile boxing match last November against internet personality Jake Paul, which he lost.
