Dawn Robinson, a founding member of the R&B group En Vogue, recently revealed that she has been living in her car for the past three years.
In a video posted on her YouTube channel, Robinson shared that after living with her parents in Las Vegas in 2020, tensions arose, leading her to move into her car temporarily. She later relocated to Los Angeles with the help of her former manager, who covered her hotel stay for eight months. However, after researching alternative living arrangements, she chose to live in her car full-time.
Robinson emphasized that her situation isn’t one of despair but rather a personal journey of self-discovery. While she acknowledged that she would prefer living in an apartment, she described her experience as an “adventure” and a transformative period. She maintains a gym membership for access to showers and has been documenting her journey, believing that more people may adopt off-grid lifestyles in the future.
Having originally joined En Vogue in 1989, Robinson later became part of Lucy Pearl and pursued a solo career. Though she reunited with En Vogue in 2005 and 2009, she is no longer affiliated with the group.
En Vogue has sold 20 million records globally and earned seven Grammy nominations. Robinson remains optimistic about a future career resurgence and envisions turning her experiences into a documentary, expressing pride in her journey despite the challenges.
