Harvey Weinstein, the former powerful film producer whose fall from grace over widespread sexual misconduct allegations helped ignite the #MeToo movement, is set to face a retrial in Manhattan this week. This follows New York’s Court of Appeals overturning his initial conviction.
In his statement to the court, Weinstein expressed confusion over his actions, reflecting on his past relationships with accusers Jessica Mann and Mimi Haley. “I can’t stop looking at Jessica and Mimi and hoping something maybe from our old friendship with me could emerge,” he said, adding that he had gone to great lengths to conceal his extramarital affairs from his wives, including his second wife, Georgina Chapman, who divorced him after the allegations came to light.
If convicted in this retrial, Weinstein could face an additional lengthy prison sentence.
