Sarah Jakes Roberts, daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes, paid an emotional tribute to her father following his announcement that he’s stepping down from leading The Potter’s House Church in Dallas. The transition, revealed during a sermon on April 27, will see Roberts and her husband, Touré Roberts, take the reins. The couple currently serve as co-pastors at ONE: A Potter’s House Church in Los Angeles and The Potter’s House of Denver.
In a heartfelt Instagram post on April 29, Roberts honored her father’s legacy, writing, “The carpet is stained with your sweat. The walls rehearse your sermons… There is no Potter’s House Dallas without Bishop T.D. Jakes.”
While his future role at the church remains unclear, his impact is widely acknowledged.
Sarah, 36, is one of five children of T.D. and Serita Jakes. Born in West Virginia and raised in Dallas, she watched her father’s ministry closely. She’s been candid about her teenage pregnancy, which she says shaped her drive and maturity. A Texas Christian University alumna, she’s also a New York Times best-selling author and CEO of Women Evolve, a faith-based women’s empowerment movement that includes a popular podcast and annual conference. Last year’s event featured Tina Knowles and Kelly Rowland and this year’s is already sold out.
T.D. Jakes previously led the “Woman, Thou Art Loosed!” conference, which he passed to his daughter before concluding it in 2022.
Beyond ministry, Roberts is an entrepreneur, producer, and humanitarian. Her husband, Touré, is the founder of ONE, established in 2014. A best-selling author and spiritual leader, he met Sarah through a mutual friend. They married in November 2014, both for the second time, and share six children from their previous relationships and their union.
Sarah delivered her first sermon in 2014 at ONE in Los Angeles, impressing Touré with her calm and poised presence.
Reflecting on her father’s transition, she acknowledged his health challenges—he suffered a heart attack during a sermon last November—and shared her readiness to lead: “I selfishly wish you’d keep going forever… but God’s called me to stand on your shoulders instead… I’m scared, but I’m ready.”
