Derek Chauvin, the ex-police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, faces new allegations similar to those from nearly four years ago.
Court documents obtained by @tmz_tv reveal that Patricia “Patty” Dawn Welch Day accuses Chauvin and fellow Minneapolis officer Ellen Jensen of using excessive force on her in January 2020.
Patty claims they forcibly removed her from her car without cause, throwing her to the ground and causing injuries, including a fractured tooth and arm and shoulder damage, before handcuffing her.
Patty alleges that Chauvin pressed his knee into her back while she was restrained, eerily similar to the method he used on George Floyd.
She also claims that Jensen did not stop Chauvin from using excessive force. Patty is suing the Minneapolis Police Department for ignoring bodycam footage of the incident.
She seeks $9 million in compensatory damages from Chauvin, Jensen, and the police department, along with an unspecified amount for punitive damages.
Chauvin is currently serving over 22 years in prison for his 2021 conviction on charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
He also accepted a plea deal for a federal charge related to violating George Floyd’s civil rights, adding a 21-year sentence.
