Chidimma Adetshina from Nigeria has secured the first runner-up position at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, held in Mexico.
The grand finale took place early Sunday at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, with a tense final moment between Nigeria and Denmark.
The competition, hailed as one of the most exciting in recent years, celebrated the skills, intelligence, and grace of women from around the world.
On Instagram, the event’s organizers highlighted the dramatic conclusion, stating: “The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.” In the end, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig from Denmark was crowned Miss Universe 2024, taking over from Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, the 2023 winner.
Although Adetshina did not win the title, her outstanding performance earned her praise from both the judges and the audience, who admired her elegance and charm. Her journey to the Miss Universe stage was not without obstacles; she withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest after reaching the finals due to nationality-related controversies.
Despite these challenges, Adetshina represented Taraba State at the national level and won the Miss Universe Nigeria title, securing her place in the international competition.
Her accomplishment recalls the historic victory of Agbani Darego, who, in 2001, became the first Black African woman to win the Miss World crown at the age of 18.
