President Bola Tinubu has suspended Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in response to serious corruption allegations.
The suspension comes with a directive for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the financial dealings of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies.
Edu is required to hand over her responsibilities to the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, conveyed these measures, emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring the effective use of public resources for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Furthermore, a panel chaired by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance has been established. The panel’s primary objective is to comprehensively review the financial structure of social investment programs, aiming to implement significant reforms for the benefit of marginalized households and to restore public trust in these initiatives.
