Grammy-winning country and Cajun singer Jo-El Sonnier has passed away at the age of 77 while on tour in Texas.
He suffered cardiac arrest after a performance at the Llano Country Opry. Music promoter Tracy Pitcox confirmed the news and mentioned that Sonnier had just completed an impressive show before the unfortunate incident.
Throughout his career, Sonnier had a notable impact on both country and Cajun music, earning five Grammy nominations and winning in 2015 for Best Regional Roots Album.
He was also inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2009.
