Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo announced on Thursday that visa requirements for all visiting Africans will be lifted by the end of 2024, aligning with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
This visa-free policy will be enacted just before Akufo-Addo hands over power on January 7, 2025, as one of his final legislative actions.
The move aims to promote a seamless single market in Africa, fostering economic growth, job creation, and poverty eradication.
Speaking at the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogues in Ghana’s Eastern Region, the President emphasized Ghana’s commitment to facilitating visa-free entry for all Africans and advocated for similar policies across the continent to enhance free movement of people, goods, and services.
The summit, organized by the AfCFTA Secretariat and the African Prosperity Network, unites African leaders to forge partnerships and work towards the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the implementation of AfCFTA would contribute significantly to Africa’s prosperity.
The three-day Africa Prosperity Dialogue concludes on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
