A pastor accused of arranging a hit on his daughter’s boyfriend, allegedly paying $40,000 to a hitman, was apprehended on Tuesday.
Samuel Pasillas, 47, pastor of Centro Internacional de Oracion, a Spanish-speaking church in Victorville, California, faces charges related to the October shooting.
The victim, reportedly romantically involved with Pasillas’ daughter, remains unnamed, according to Riverdale Police Department.
Investigations revealed Pasillas met with the hired men, providing details about the victim’s whereabouts on the night of the shooting.
One of the alleged hitmen, Juan Manuel Cebreros, 55, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds but managed to drive to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Pasillas, denying the charges, faces counts including solicitation for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon.
While religion is speculated to have influenced the incident, no official motive has been disclosed.
Cebreros and Pasillas are detained at the Robert Presley Detention Center on $1 million bails.
Additional suspects are sought in connection with the case.
