Derek Chauvin, the ex-Minneapolis police officer convicted in George Floyd’s death, was reportedly stabbed in prison on Friday, sustaining serious injuries, according to an unnamed source cited by the Associated Press.
The Bureau of Prisons confirmed an assault at FCI Tucson, where Chauvin is held, and stated that life-saving measures were administered before transporting the injured inmate to a hospital.
Chauvin, sentenced to 22.5 years in 2021 for Floyd’s murder, had also pleaded guilty to federal civil rights charges, receiving a 21-year sentence and being transferred to a federal prison in Tucson.
The Supreme Court recently declined to hear his appeal.
