Nine finalists in the ongoing Hansik (Korean food) competition are competing for the top prize of N1 million this month.
The event, hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN), focuses on blending Korean and Nigerian cuisines using Jang sauces.
The competition, which started online, initially featured 18 contestants in the second round. The top winner will receive N1 million, while the second and third place finishers will win N700,000 and N400,000, respectively.
KCCN Director Kim Changki highlighted that the Korean government’s financial support made the contest possible, noting Nigerians’ enthusiasm for Korean cuisine.
He praised the quality of the dishes and expressed hope that the competition will become an annual event with continued government support.
Chef Godfrey Odoh, a Nigerian judge, emphasized that the contest helps showcase Nigerian recipes globally and fosters collaboration between Nigerian and Korean chefs.
He mentioned that the competition evaluates the complexity and taste of the dishes, with every contestant bringing their best efforts.
