Trey Songz has lost a legal battle against a police officer, resulting in an $11 million judgment against him.
The singer was ordered to pay the sum after a Las Vegas judge ruled in favor of Travis Dunn, a man who claims he was beaten by Songz and his security team while attempting to rescue his wife from the singer’s hotel room in November 2021.
Dunn alleges that he heard his wife screaming for help from Songz’s room at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, and when he tried to intervene, he was assaulted.
Dunn suffered serious injuries, including fractures to both eye sockets, nose, ribs, and stomach, and was unable to work for over a month.
His wife had reportedly been escorted to the hotel room, where she was allegedly assaulted before attempting to leave and having her phone taken.
Although Songz was cleared of sexual assault allegations in 2022 and no criminal charges were filed, Dunn later sued the singer for battery, assault, and negligence. The court awarded Dunn a default judgment when Songz failed to respond to the lawsuit.
Dunn claims the assault had lasting emotional and physical effects, with visible scarring and daily reminders of the attack. The Cosmopolitan hotel was also named in the lawsuit.
