TikTok has reported a cyber-attack targeting brands and celebrities, including Paris Hilton and CNN, with a “very limited” number of accounts affected.
The company is helping users regain access to their accounts. TikTok, owned by ByteDance, has not disclosed further details about the nature of the attack.
A spokesperson confirmed that while Paris Hilton’s account was targeted, it was not compromised.
Hilton, known for her reality TV career and over 10 million followers, is an active user on the platform.
However, CNN’s account was compromised.
TikTok stated they are working closely with CNN to restore access and enhance security measures.
The news emerges as TikTok faces potential US bans unless it’s sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
The platform, with millions of global users, has faced scrutiny over user data security and ties to the Chinese government.
TikTok has also become a battleground for US election campaigns, with both Donald Trump and Joe Biden using the platform.
