The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 10 officers from its Lagos Zonal Command over allegations of stealing operational items.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, stating that the move is part of ongoing efforts by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede to eliminate corruption within the agency.
Oyewale explained that the officers were arrested last week following directives from the EFCC chairman. “The affected officers are being questioned about the theft of operational items they failed to account for,” he said, adding that investigators are making progress, and those found culpable will face internal disciplinary measures.
In addition, the EFCC announced on Monday the dismissal of 27 officers as part of its efforts to uphold integrity and combat fraud. According to Oyewale, the dismissed officers were involved in fraudulent activities and misconduct in 2024.
The dismissal was approved by Chairman Olukoyede based on recommendations from the commission’s staff disciplinary committee.
The EFCC chairman reiterated the commission’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption, emphasizing that no officer will be exempt from disciplinary action.
